Aside from an almost useless included user's manual, set up and initial installation was a relative snap. (More detailed and friendly user manual is available online.) My older 3D player functions perfectly through the receiver to my 3D TV and I am ready for 4K UHD if I should ever upgrade. The sound quality is surprisingly good, especially for the price. I would recommend this for anyone that does not need or want higher output to their speakers. Functions better than my older, now defunct due to salt air environment, expensive receiver.

The receiver works great and easy to use; much smaller than the 8-year old receiver that i was using.

Purchased this receiver along with 2 Sony core subs for half price on all Sony Core series. Had I known how great this receiver sounded, I would have paid full price long ago. Setup takes a little time but once it was set and I was familiar with the remote...the rest was a breeze. I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for an upgrade.

The best part about this audio-video receiver is the sound and the way it makes older equipment like my 1978 Reel to Reel tape deck sound so great. Assigning the inputs is so easy and labeling them is nice. The 4K looks and sounds unbelievable with movies like Star Wars: The Force Awakens in 7.1. I love this receiver by Sony.

I bought this when it was on sale for $200. I recently converted my son's bedroom into a "theater room". It had everything I wanted/needed in a receiver. I have this received connected to 5 Theater Solutions TSS6A's I've installed into the ceiling. I also have a Polk PSW505 12" powered sub connected for that extra thump on the low end. Overall, it sounds very impressive, especially for the price I paid at the time.

I waited until the March audio sale to get this. I originally wanted a Denon but after comparing this one against the one I wanted, The Sony was clearly better & had more options! at over 1000watts, 145watts per chnl , added a good 10" subwoofer, a pair of front lower speakers, center channel & 6 satellite speakers and this thing sounds amazing! with the pass-through I was able to clean up all the HDMI cords going to my tv down to just one.
once set up, it does everything for you! turn on the tv and it switches to tv, turn on my ipod, poof! it switches to that, same with my laptop.
It doesn't have a whole bunch of buttons because it doesn't need them. the speakers can be attached by plain wire or banana-plugs..
Spend a little money and wiring time on the plugs, you wont regret it!
I have it paired with a LG 4K Blue-Ray player and an Insignia 50" 4K TV.

I'm not disappointed with my purchase, But seeing as I have 4 , 12" Cerwin Vega tower speakers with a Cerwin Vegas center.. Including a preamp ..
floor sub and 2 Sony surround sound speakers.. Basically using every bit of the Reciver's potential!!! . I reckon you could say I was expecting a bit more sound!!! Denon Reciver was my want,,, I actually went to Best Buy to purchase a Denon Reciver!! fella working there basically said the Sony Reciver would be my best choice!! Wish I bought the Denon now.. having said that !! I've purchased my first flat, smart tv .. HDMI cord patches tv. Cable and Wi-Fi is running threw my Sony.. since I've bought my Sony Reciver I've noticed that after it goes through the warming moment it seems to connect harder every time..

I purchase this product and it did not come with a remote. I purchased it in the confidence that someone checked the package and verified that everything was there. The picture clearly shows no missing parts. Now I could of uninstalled everything drove back and wasted four hours of my evening on a remote. I called and they told me I could return it and get a full refund. I would just of rather of the guy just opened up another receiver and gave me the remote

I have never owned a receiver before so I can only give my opinion based on this product. This receiver has been amazing. I have been researching receivers for years and always talked myself out of purchasing any that I have looked at until this one. Everyone that comes over to my house has complimented me on the sound. Watching movies has been amazing. I use the 2 surround speakers in bi-amp mode to power a separate room.
If something were to ever happen to this receiver, I could never use one without Bluetooth. I use Bluetooth headphones during the day, then connect with Bluetooth in the car for the drive home, and when I get home, I connect to the receiver with Bluetooth which powers the unit on, the SongPal app automatically opens, and when I open my music app, it automatically changes the input to my phone. Beautiful.
The mic for auto setting the speaker levels works very well. I have my own preferences though so I tweaked it a little further. Honestly, once the cables were hooked up (which took the longest amount of time), I was up and running in under 15 minutes. That included not only initial setup but naming the inputs, tweaking the sound, and starting a movie. Super simple.
The amp menu is very nice for being able to adjust settings while watching something else. I can easily disable the surround backs that are setup in a different room so it doesn't bother my wife while she's there and I'm in the main room behind the TV.
I'm not someone that needs all the apps built into the receiver or on a smart TV. That's what the Xbox and phone are for.
All and all, this is a wonderful receiver that's very easy to use, sounds amazing, and does all that I need.

Purchased as part of an overall upgrade to a 4K system.
Pros: Good sound with Blu-ray, TV and music. ARC HDMI output. Initial setup is relatively easy with the automatic calibration mic. Price.
Cons: Fine tuning after initial setup is a bit difficult; I found the menus on the receiver display hard to navigate and understand and not all are on the TV. Larger than I expected.

Overall a great sound machine. My sony 1070 had .007 thd and phono jacks- then my sony 985 had .3 thd and no phono hook up, but CDs and Sat radio replaced the need. 0s and 1s sound as good as my old dynamic range expander cleaner too. This sony is more than i need and has enough power for my old JBL80T speakers. My audiophile ears are old too, so if i'm not right- blame it on ZZ, Who, Ozzy.... but i think these are great for some one who wants a lot of hook ups and easy to use- at a really reasonablr price... i do have my old Kenwood with a phono jack to get rid of the 60 hz hum from a technic's turntable.- i just patch it into this sony when i have the energy and wish to hear my vinyl

So much horsepower! I've got this hooked up with the Sony Core Series floor speakers, center speaker and sub. Sounds amazing. Set up was easy. I bought some premium 14ga wire and banana plugs to make connecting the speaker wires easier. No noise at all! Crisp clean sound. I love that this unit, when connected with a HDMI cable, turns itself on/off with the TV. I no longer have to find 2 remotes to watch TV. Love Sony. I hit the button on my PS4 controller and it turns on the PS4, which turns on my TV, which turns on the receiver. Brilliant!
