    Best reciever under $200

This reciever has a great interface which allows the easiest use of any I have owned in the past. Plenty of power to handle my very large JBL Array Series theater speakers at any volumes with no distortion. Display on my tv screen is great and the 4k worked flawlessly. Hook up was a breeze and the reciever selects all the settings automatically once you select an input with the remote. I would recommend to any persons looking to have a superior reciever for the under $200 price. Do it.

I always think about my purchases based on the price I paid. A nice receiver will seems much better at $200 than if you paid $500 for it. This receiver was on sale at at unbelievable price. Normal price was $350. It was on sale for $200. Bestbuy.com had an excellent condition open box for $188. After using my rewards I had saved I paid somewhere near $50 for this. I had a decent 5.1 receiver. But after upgrading to a 4K tv I knew a more modern receiver was in our future. Not only does this allow for the 4K pass through that I needed, but it has Bluetooth, 7 channels vs 5 channels, and two subwoofer outputs vs 1. It’s not night and day different sonically than my previous receiver. But the couple upgrades for the price paid makes it a great addition to my home theater. Sound great. Great options. Plenty of power. Very little setup after you initially power it on. Look for it on sale.

The best thing about this receiver is all 4 HDMI inputs are HDCP 2.2 compatible, unlike most other receivers in this price range. They usually have maybe two 2.2 inputs that are 2.2 The sound far exceeds what I expected from a receiver in this prica range also. If you're not a total audiophile, this is a great system. Setup was easy and took less than 15 minutes (after making all connections). It has many speaker configuration settings, so you don't need to have 7 speakers and 2 subs, so you can upgrade over time.

We needed a new receiver which had the appropriate connections, HDMI and digital audio for our new tv. I did not want to spend a fortune and took a chance with the Sony. It was easy to set up and the sound is just fine. We are quite happy with this receiver so far.

Bought the Sony receiver to update a 5.1 surround system. Easy on screen instructions to get the most out of the performance. Would recommend connecting cable/satellite directly to the tv. Much better sound. Complements my Sont 75" 4K tv.

Allows for 4K and 3D passthrough and is extremely affordable! I replace a previous Sony model to upgrade the technology in my home. Sounds great for movies, gaming and music. The bluetooth is a nice touch as well.

Great value and well worth the price. Two tips: you need to download an app to operate the wifi setup, but no big deal. It comes with a microphone to adjust speaker volumes in the surround sound mode. Some people asked if this has an AB switch, and it does, but it won't work with the sytem set at 7.1. I have 5 speakers in my house and two in the back yard, all wired to this receiver. To get the system to work, I had to set the receiver at 5.1, with the outside speakers disconnected, then run the audio setup with the included microphone. Spent two hours with Sony customer support and they couldn't help. Had to figure it out. In 7.1 mode, the A/B/Both switch does not work. Set it up as 5.1, then connect the rear speakers, and it works. I can paly misic in the living room and back yard, or just the living room, or just the back yard. Hope this helps.

This is a really superb home theatre system. It's an incredible to get all these features and such clean sound and power in such a compact and reasonably priced unit. I was unable to distinguish Bluetooth from a CD. The unit runs cool so the components will remain stable and last. My only regret is that there's no AM radio, but with FM and all the other inputs, who really needs AM anymore? Sony has really done an excellent job in designing and producing this component.

This unit is not really powerful compared to my old model Sony. The sound more clear but not enough base for my bose system. Just like the other buyer mention just play as is - Can't manually adjust the sound. I just returned and reuse my old Sony

Recently we got a new 4K television. I had all my devices connected to that television just as I did my old Samsung HDTV and then the sound was fed to my old Sony 5.1 receiver via an optical audio cable. It sounded good, however every 4-5 minutes the audio would cut out and then come back on – the receiver would display a message about DTS/PCM. It didn’t matter if we were watching DirecTV, using an app on the TV (Netflix/Hulu/YouTube) or playing Xbox – regardless of the source of the video, the sound would cut in and out. After doing some research I found that the signal from the TV to the receiver was somewhat of a mismatch. The receiver didn’t have any HDMI ports on it – so the only way to get audio to it was by way of an optical audio cable. So, as we upgraded our TV, we didn’t plan on it but were pretty much forced to upgrade our receiver too. As my old Sony unit was about 15 years old and going strong, I opted to go with another Sony receiver. I will say, that when I first got everything hooked up and plugged in – turned it on, the sound was horrible. I was extremely disappointed. I spent some time going through the on screen (TV) settings menu, and found an ‘Easy setup’ menu. I plugged in the microphone that’s supposed to optimize the sound and ran through that wizard. When it was finished, it still sounded horrible. I then started going through the manual which was all but useless cause it doesn’t explain ANYTHING about the advanced settings. I found a menu to which I can change the decibel level of each speaker (2 fronts, center, 2 rears, and subwoofer) as well as manually enter an estimated distance from the optimal seat in our living room. After about 45 minutes of tinkering with this I finally have it sounding close to what my old Sony receiver sounded like. What I absolutely hate about this receiver is there is no bass/treble adjustments for the satellite speakers as there was on my old receiver. There also is no balance, however to combat this you just adjust the decibel level of each speaker. Don’t let my review steer you away cause it does sound good, but coming from an old Sony receiver to this one – you’re going to be extremely frustrated. There were a few times where I just wanted to box it up and take it back. What is severely lacking here is some sort of documentation on how to manually adjust the sound settings. Would I recommend this to a friend? If my friend was patient and somewhat tech savvy, yeah. Would I recommend this to my mom? Not a chance in the world – she would never be able to figure it out and would just settle for very bad sound.

I purchased this receiver to replace an older 5.1 Yamaha that pre-dated HDMI. The Yamaha was 10 years old, but a solid receiver and it saw a lot of use. I kept the Yamaha 5.1 speakers and subwoofer and attached them to the Sony. First off I noticed that the sound from the Sony was much better. Performing the automatic setup really made the system sound very good. I always had trouble adjusting the subwoofer on the Yamaha and the Sony did a great job of auto-tuning it properly. I never felt that the Yamaha system produced a really good sound and I always assumed it was the speakers, but clearly that's not the case. The new Sony receiver has a much better sound. Not that the speakers are great, but they are definitely sound better connected to the Sony. I found the setup to be easy, but I've set up many receivers in my lifetime so I may not be a good judge, but the manual seems well written. Switching between HDMI sources is straightforward. I was also able to integrate the receiver to my Logitech Harmony hub to make the operation of the entertainment system easier for my wife. It definitely is a no-frills Receiver, but that's is what I was looking for. I did not need built-in WiFi since it's connected to Sonos for whole-house music. I do not have any 4K sources nor a 4K TV so I can not attest to the 4K features of the unit. It is also configured in 5.1 as I do not have 7.1 speakers.

Bang for your buck type of receiver

Im running Klipsch fronts, surrounds, and center, with an SVS sub with this receiver. I got it for $200 and I would say that it was well worth the price. I made sure that I went with a good set of efficient speakers since the power rating on this unit seemed low. I am happy I did, but to be honest I have the levels to the whole 5.1 system below 0 and I still cannot turn the volume up past half way without feeling like I will get a complaint from the neighbors. I relied on some reviews and internet blogs that said this receiver has good sound quality. And since I have never had or heard how a receiver price 5 times what this one is priced sounds than I can only say that to me the sound quality is good. Of course sound quality is also affected by your choice of speakers so choose well. Last but not least the reason I said that this is a bang for your buck receiver is for the fact that it has a couple features I thought I would have to pay much more for. Built in bluetooth, 4k ready although 1080p is still pretty good, but its good to know i'm covered if I choose to upgrade in the future, the capability to run dual subs, and it has a set of outputs that can be used to add a set of front height speakers if I am not mistaken, or add a second zone, or they can be used to bi amp your fronts if you have a set of speakers that is capable of that. Pretty awesome for $200.

I would of gave it 5 stars, but in the sound adjustment, it was not as open as the previous model that I replaced it with. Base specs were very similar, this new model actually has (4) 4k hdmi plugins, previous, had only 1 actual 4k plugin, the other 3 were standard hdmi. It sounds a little quieter than previous model at same volume level. After some more working around and adjusting, it now sounds the same as previous receiver, the perk, this receiver also recognizes the Dolby sound settings in movies. Overall, good receiver.

My previous receiver died (Yamaha, which I really liked) after a few years of use, so I needed to replace it. I found this receiver on sale and decided to give it a go. Although I do like it's simplicity, and it works as expected, I find it's on-screen menus are too simple and lack many of the customizable features I enjoyed on my Yamaha receiver. When the on-screen menu appeared for the first time, it was as if MS-DOS had just booted on my tv. However, as I stated before, it does work well and had the specs I was looking for- 4K, Bluetooth and enough power to run my sound system. (Side note: many of you probably know this already, but I learned while shopping for receivers this time around that you don't need to factor in the wattage of your subwoofer when calculating the total power required for your new receiver. It has its own power supply from the wall) I am happy with this receiver, but gave it 4/5 stars for its lack of functions and archaic on-screen interface. If you're just looking for a simple machine to help complete your sound system, this could be the one for you. If you're looking for more, you may want to keep shopping.

I got a great deal on this when I bought it on sale at Best Buy. It's not the most sophisticated system out there but it meets my needs. This is a good choice if you are using HDMI cables to connect everything. It has an output for a subwoofer, can connect via bluetooth and is pretty straightforward to set up and use. My favorite part of this is the remote. Very easy and intuitive to use. It takes a few moments to get going when you turn it on, just be patient it will get there.

This receiver has a lot of features, sounds good and is easy to operate. It serves as an HDMI hub and auto-switches sound modes depending on the input source. The only negative is that you can't display CATV with playing music from another source. Kinda miss that but seems normal now.

Recently upgraded my media room equipment with high end B&W speakers and Marantz receiver to achieve Dolby Atmos. So I moved my old B&W towers down to the living room and decided to upgrade my receiver there as well but didn’t need to spend the crazy $$ like I did in the media room. Found this on a Black Friday special that I just could pass up. It had everything I needed...4K, WiFi, etc, and a steel of a price. Can’t go wrong!
