One reason is that the screen uses Organic Light Emitting Diode technology. Check Wikipedia for more information. This is currently more expensive, cutting edge technology, although the concept was originally described in the 50's. It is supposed to provide a better picture with better blacks and colors. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder so visit a store and see what you think. The difference may or may not be worth the extra expense depending on your budget. It is also a very large display!

If you feel this TV, at it's various size/price points are out of your budgetary range, move on... There are other TV's from Sony/LG/Samsung --> insignia/TCL brands from very cheap to mildly expensive. Choice is a wonderful thing.
