Hi lonelymonk! You can control this camcorder using a smartphone. This product has a built-in Wi-Fi, you don't need to purchase anything to be able to connect to a smartphone. -Anthony

Please try again later.The camera comes with built in wifi the directions in the manual for using the free app that will allow your WiFi accessible phone or computer to connect to the cameras wifi and the app controls the record start, stop and zoom with picture of what the camera is pointed at.
