“Is there a default setting for the manual focus control? Other words do you have to go into settings and switch it to manual focus each time the camera is turned on or can it be set to start up in manual focus mode?”

Hi Lee, during startup, the camera's focus will be the last selected focus mode. Switching from autofocus and manual focus can be performed on the camcorder's menu. Regards, -Mark
