Hi Rob, the newer model is the FDR-AX53. Major difference is the improvement of zoom capability. It features 20x optical zoom compared to 10x optical zoom of AX33. It also has 250x digital zoom compared to 120x digital zoom of AX33. It also features 1920x1080pp 120fps that the AX33 do not have. Hope this helps, Zander

Please try again later.If your talking about the AX53, I have no experience with it, it does have a lower pixel count, but this could be offset if the sensor was larger. all in all the ratings seemed to be better for the AX33 so this is the one I went for, I am not disappointed.
