“Can this camera record discrete video? By that I mean, can I shoot from the hip without the display deployed? Would be useful for discreetly recording a possible crime scene without someone noticing.”

Hi TJBryanh, it is not possible. You would need to have the LCD display open to record the video. If you close the LCD monitor while recording movies, this product stops recording.
