This camcorder is really nice as far as the clarity of pics, videos and sound, it's easy to use too. I love the projection feature but for me the main reason for this purchase was because I was looking for a WiFi capable cam. This one claims to be but it's not a strong feature at all. An app has to be installed and can only be sent to smart phones, no PC's or anything like that. SonyHandyCam can only"WiFi" pictures (not video, which defeats the purpose) to a smart phone after a long and frustrating ritual that would usually result in one thing or another not being supported, etc. So this is not a good purchase for me. I did get it on sale because someone else had also returned it once and there were no cords, no battery, box or paperwork. I am returning this item because I needed a WiFi capable camcorder & I already have the basic Sony HandyCam that's almost identical to this one. In the instance this is being considered for purchase as a good basic home video cam, these Sony HandyCams are great, but if you need wireless features I don't recommend paying extra for this one only because it claims to be wireless capable and essentially is not. Nicolle-:) My answer is yes and no regarding recommending it to a friend. It completely depends on what the product is needed for.

I bought this as an open box item. Received it in pristine condition. I had also bought Cannon Vixia RF700 to compare. Even with battery put in the camcorder the SONY one was lighter and handy. The body (plastic) quality is good. The picture as seen on the camcorder screen was 'natural' in SONY and had an artificial tinge of color in the Cannon. The projector feature is awesome and comes in handy specially when every around is shouting at you to show what you just recorded! The zoom performance is better than the Cannon vixia and I could see less noise in the SONY when I zoomed to the max under a 60 watt lamp setting (lux 2700K). I have read reviews that say the screen is not a 'touch screen'. Believe me I didn't find it to be a problem. The little joystick is all that you will need to browse through the option. Definitely a value for money!

Purchased this for husband to take to college lectures. He always sits pretty close but sometimes could not keep up with the professor. This camera catches the entire lecture so my husband can go back and complete his notes. It is very clear audio and video is amazing even in the low light of the classroom environment. Just make sure you clear it with your professor because some do not like being taped. The camera is small enough to fit in backpack or tote. Had to purchase extra battery just in case the one it came with ran out, but so far husband has not had to use it. It is is easy to turn off and on as needed during the lectures which saves battery time. Remember Best Buy has an excellent return policy if you don't like it. The reviews on this camera are excellent on the web and Consumer Reports.

I bought this camera to use in my web application development class. Students used it to film a virtual tour of the Derby, Kansas Historical Museum. They filmed as they walked through the museum and used it to pan each room's interior. The picture quality was excellent at all light levels and the video was not jerky or jumpy even though filming was done as part of a walking tour and the camera was held by a student who was a novice photographer. The camera controls are very intuitive and easy to learn to use. Excellent battery life. The built-in projector is great for viewing your video on a wall or screen.

I am glad deciding to buy this camcorder and choosing The wifi feature, whoever design the remote android app deserves gazillion kudos...!!! So handy, easy to operate and for the price I just couldn't expect less from Sony. Let's face it, even though this is for home recording the image resolution and it's user friendly interface features makes it an ideal buy. As with all electronics it is fragile, so be careful how you handle it. My last Sony camcorder is a 8 mm cartridge type but still works perfectly. It is a MUST to install the Sony Play Memories software which makes it easier to transfer and organize your media files. I am very satisfied with its quality.

I got two of these on deal and I used them to replace a couple mini dv cameras that were 1440 with these that are 1980 x1080 I believe. Great quality choices and double the frame rate of just a few years back 60i. The ability to use wifi to run them is cool and it's own built in projector which I haven't used yet... My only negative with these is that every Sony video cam I've ever owned (5 before these) they all had touch screens, and on these you use a little joy stick on the flip out monitor.... Yeah everything else jumped forward but now it takes a bit longer to do anything because that tech jumped back... Overall though, really packs a punch for the size and price.

Less than 9 months and it's dead.

I purchased the HDR-PJ275 which is last years model that is very similar to this. I used it maybe 5 hours max in the 9 months that I had it and for no reason at all, the camera is dead when I go to use it after about a month of sitting. I bought a new battery and a charger to make sure it wasn't the battery and sure enough the camera is dead. I never dropped it and barely used it really. Most of the few hours I used it were spent using the projector. I know it is within warranty but it is a serious hassle and after shipping and labor it may not even be worth the time. I think a new camera should last more than 4 or 5 hours use in 9 months.

I bought this to record my daughter's volleyball games. It works very well. The only drawback is that you have to keep the screen open to record. If it had the ability to record without it being open battery life would be awesome. Even the ability to turn off the screen would be great. I just bought extra batteries for it and it takes care of it. Video is crystal clear, I use a 64 GB memory card and that had plenty of space to record all the games over the course of a weekend. Sony makes some great products and this one is another of them.
