Could these be worn for hearing protection? null

For a concert or football game, sure. For the gun range or mowing the lawn, not so much. I have tried many ANC while mowing and it tends to eventually blow the speaker trying to compensate.

They are not designed for hearing protection. The new Sony Linkbuds S noise-cancelling earbuds are designed to block unwanted ambient sounds using active noise canceling technology and is effective in low frequency ranges such as airplanes, trains, offices, near air-conditioning, and is not as effective for higher frequencies, such as human voices.
