If your old speakers connect using standard speaker wire then they will work. The subwoofers connect with a standard subwoofer cable. You can connect either 1 or 2 to this unit.

What happened was my Panasonic plasma TV quit on me and I took the opportunity to upgrade to a Sony 4K setup which also required a new receiver (this Sony model). Long story short, my Panasonic surround sound speakers did work with my new setup. My subwoofer was not compatible so I replaced it with a new Sony 10" subwoofer. Now everything is perfect.
