Hi Sammyd, Unfortunately, this AV receiver doesn't have that kind of functionatliy. You need to manually select the inputs connected to your unit. Regards, David
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. When the TV is connected to the 790 via HDMI/ARC with HDMI Control on, turning on the TV with the cable remote will turn on the 790 with the last-used source but the 790 then displays the Home menu overlay with Watch selected. You have to use the 790 remote to OK it, which in turn brings up the Watch menu with SAT/CATV selected, which is the input previously set when the 790 was turned off via HDMI control when the TV was turned off with the cable remote; you have to again use the 790 remote to Ok it to clear the menu overlay. So yes, the 790 remembers what input was selected when it was turned off and back on BUT it redundantly displays these two menus that have to be cleared with the 790 remote AND IT IS DRIVING MY WIFE CRAZY. The only time I should need to use the 790 remote is when I want to switch to a different source (eg., my Sony Blu-ray player) using the BD/DVD button. A software update is needed to remove these screens or offer an option to disable them.

The power strip stays on at all time - I turn the receiver/tv on and off thru the Cable remote...have been doing this for years and rewired everything exactly the same when I purchased the new version of the same receiver. It happens when I do the same thing with the receiver remote. Might be my Cable set up on the order of how it turns each component on - I hadn't thought of that before...thanks for thinking of my problem! Jarring some more ideas...
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. That is a good question. I just tried your scenario on mine and after turning off and then back on, it stayed on Sat/Cable. The receiver must remain connected to the power source....dont use a power strip switch to power the receiver on and off.
