I'm not sure how tech savvy you need to be to operate the device. I didn't have any problems with it but I work a lot with electronics. If you are tech savvy and are able to start the recording for the person who is not tech savvy, then this would work great with the voice activated feature. You might want to consider purchasing the plug in external lapel mic. If you are not tech savvy or think you may not be, I'd try to line up an appointment in the store with a sales associate to go over what you need to do. Personally, I don't think it's all that hard. Once all of the options of where the recording will be stored are set it's just a matter of turning it on and pressing the record button.
