I don't think you'll be disappointed, to my knowledge there's no issue with shuffling songs from the SD card. In fact I just tried it myself, no problem at all.

When playing music, it cycles through the selections in order as listed on the database by “All Songs”, “Artist”, “Album”, “Genre”, etc. There is a selection embedded within the menu system that allows for shuffling. It does it by way of shuffling the database records. After shuffling, the machine still cycles through the selections in order as listed but the list is now scrambled within the selected category. Hope that makes sense. Additionally, I have a bunch of music on CDs that I loaded into iTunes then transferred to the Sony. I added a 64GB card to load the music on...Best Buy has ‘em for less than $20. For some reason or other, some of the tunes were not categorized into the correct Genre, instead, there were a few (around 20) that were categorized under numbers rather than the actual Genre. To correct the issue, I developed a separate Playlist for each Genre in iTunes then transferred each Playlist to the Sony rather than transferring the entire iTunes library. By doing it that way, I can select a Genre by way of the Playlist and ignore the actual Genre listing.
