You can turn it off. I switched mine to Google

The Amazon Alexa operations are done using the Amazon Alexa app installed on a smartphone and a dedicated CUSTOM button can be assigned for Alexa or Google Assistant. You won't be having voice guidance like Alexa or Google assistant from the headphones if it is not available or not installed from your smartphone. When Amazon Alexa is not available on the smartphone connected to the headphones even if you press the Amazon Alexa button on the headphones, the voice guidance: “Either your mobile device isn’t connected; or you need to open the Alexa App and try again” is heard.
