They do quite well at blocking out ambient noise. It blocks out mostly low frequencies, however like the hum of AC units, road noise, etc. I'm not sure how well they would do with dog barks and probably depends on how "high" the barks are. I do have an issue with them in Bluetooth mode where the sound will just be terrible for about 15 seconds and then go back to normal. People in the zoom session will tell me that they can't hear me and then it gets better. I recorded myself on video using them and can confirm this happens. I suspect it's interference from my cell phone but I'm not sure as I feel like it's happened with my phone far away. I now use the cord when on important calls which is annoying considering these are Sony's top Bluetooth headphones and this is happening.

The noise-cancelling function is effective in low-frequency ranges such as airplanes, trains, offices, near air-conditioning, and is not as effective for higher frequencies, such as human voices. Although noise is reduced such as dog barks, it is not completely cancelled. I hope this helps! -Carl
