“I was gifted a Sony XG300 speaker in grey. Quickly realized, I would prefer to have the black. I went to two Best Buy stores and both denied me an even exchange for the black since the grey one was on sale at the time of purchase. Any recommendations?”

Get the black and pay the difference, if this makes you unhappy--keep the gray and still be unhappy! Myself, I prefer black as Im getting ready to order one. Good Luck!
