“Does the case need to be near by when the ear buds are being used? Or can it stay in a locker elsewhere in the building? What about if only 1 bud is being used, does the case need to be near?”

• Not at all the case doesn't need to be anywhere near the buds. I leave my case in my locker when working out the same applies when wearing one bud.

• Nope! The earbuds don't need to be near the case when they're being used. The right bud is the one that can be out of the case on it's own.
