It connects to WiFi or ethernet. So however you can connect to the internet. If you have an older phone that has a USB internt tethering, then yes you can connect it. Given the WiFi is terrible I have to hotspot my phone and connect to the internet that way.

It runs off WI-FI but mine came with the Ethernet HUB included. If your phone will run a hot spot, then you could connect it to your phone wirelessly.

This is a stand alone unit. You don’t need to connect it to your phone. Simply connect to your wifi or ethernet connection, set up your account info and you are good to go.
