Mine works just fine plugged into the back of my Samsung. Line of sight does not appear to be any issue at all.

No, it uses radio waves. It also has an infrared output to control the TV volume and power.

No, my TV has HDMI ports in the rear and it works just fine. That is one of the things I like, I don’t see the Roku sticking out.

This goes into the usb hub in the back or front. Mine is in the back and it works well.

Mine is plugged in back of tv. Remote works most of the time, few times it hasn’t I pointed a slightly different angle and it worked

No As long as the wire that hangs down is visable it works.
