“Could this swann 4980 pro series system be installed in a new house that has been pre wired? I'm wondering because new most homes are pre wired with cat5/6 for PoE systems.”

The DVR-4980 uses BNC coaxial cables you are not able to use CAT5/CAT6 cables for this unit.
