With the two-tuner you can record two shows, or watch one and record one at the same time (two things happening at the same time). The four-tuner allows you to record up to 4 shows at the same time, or watch one and record three. If your antenna signal is strong, you can get a good quality coax splitter to put on your antenna so that you can hook an additional coax cable directly to your TV and watch an additional channel while the others are occupied recording (if your TV has a tuner). I did this with a two-tuner so I can watch a show while two are recording.

The four-tuner model allows up to four simultaneous viewings/recordings. If you use only one TV at a time, the two-tuner model is plenty.
