I bought this TV a week ago, and was experiencing the exact problem you described (I have the sound passing through a Sony Amp via optical). It appears that selecting multiple audio outputs was the problem. I had Dolby Digital and DTS checked, and the issues appear to have been corrected by selecting only Dolby Digital. If this doesn't work, you can just choose PCM stereo. Not sure if there's a noticeable difference between stereo and 5.1 with just a sound bar.
