I believe you need the internet for the OTA channel guide to work properly. But, register the TV with Roku, plug a USB in the input and you can pause live TV for up to 90 minutes. Great for when you're cooking or doing laundry. Allows you to skip commercials as you catch back up to real time. Just don't change channels (or inputs) or you lose the recorded show. No programming of dates and times (like a DVR). Only the current channel.
