“Is there another option for Audio Out other than the Optical Cable out? Is there a way to hook up external speakers thru a receiver that does not have an optical audio out?”

Yes...HDMI will send audio back to receiver and there is a headphone style output you could plug 3.5mm to rca out dongle into to get analog output for older receiver.

Yes. If you utilize the HDMI ARC (Audio Return Channel) port from your TV with a compatible HDMI cable (providing your receiver's HDMI Output channel is ARC compatible) it works great! I get full DTS and Dolby surround via this method. Good luck!
