You need two devices for cable internet, a cable modem and a WiFi router/access point (this TP-Link device). When you rent the ISP equipment they sometimes rent you a single device which combines the two functions, but this router is NOT also a modem. Most home routers are NOT also modems. The modem will attach to the coax cable coming in from outside. Then you will use an Ethernet cable to attach the WiFi router to the modem.
