Yes, it works fine an access point. In fact, the new TP-Link firmware allows you to set access point mode, where NAT and DHCP are disabled. You just need to turn that on in the setup wizard, then plug the router into your home network via its LAN ports (not the LAN port, since that will be disabled.)
