I don't have a subscription, and after I put in a micro SD card, I can watch those clips that it records from the app. I can also hear sounds and talk to those around the cameras from work. Now as for anywhere in the country? I believe that if you have access to the internet, you most likely can see it as well. I didn't do any special setup other than what the app did.

That's a primary reason that I got these (mine is a 4 pack) - so I wouldn't have to pay monthly. Cameras without recording an event are almost worthless. BTW these solar panels won't charge the battery while the temperature is below 27 degrees F.
