• Hello, AG. The Boom 3 can play any audio through your phone via Bluetooth. You do not NEED the app, but I highly recommend downloading and using the Ultimate Ears App. It is free, and you gain a lot of features like firmware updates, remote power, party up (pairing multiple speakers together), an alarm clock, and one-touch playlists.
