“Mega Boom 3, is the only way to charge it is by using the separate charging dock?”

No, I charge mine with the supplied USB cable. The charging dock is just another way to charge it but is a bit pricey to buy in addition to the speaker.

No it can charge using the micro b port on the back of the speaker.

No, it has a little flap flap on towards the bottom that uses micro-USB.
