You shouldn't have to do anything to them. They already come configured. Look in the back of both devices and there is a button that lets you synchronize them. I will recommend playing a constant sound since sometimes the surround speakers shut off when they don't need to play any audio.

Make sure that the volume is turned up and check the connections to make sure everything is connected properly. If that isn't the issue, then the most likely issue is that the sender and receiver are switched, It's a very easy mistake to do, but try switching them and see if that solves the issue.
