Hello! While the Vitamix can handle a variety of blending and grinding tasks, it is important to note that it is not advertised a spice grinder. The Dry Grains container is designed for grinding grains, coffee beans and kneading bread dough. You can use your dry grains container to grind herbs; however certain herbs contain volatile oils. The container can retain theses oils and cause permanent discoloration. This is considered a cosmetic change which is not covered by the warranty. Other herbs and spices have strong odors that linger in the container long after the herb has been ground, ultimately affecting the flavor of subsequent foods prepared in the container. It is recommended to clean your container thoroughly after each use to prevent this odor retention from happening.
