• The sb3651 is a 5.1 surround sound system with a rear subwoofer that has places to plug in your rear satellite speakers.. but if for some reason you only have the sound bar itself it will not work it all has to be connected together in order for this soundbar to work I found this out by trying to turn on my TV after just hooking up the soundbar and nothing would work until I plugged the subwoofer in. don't understand why but that is the way it is set up so no the sound bar will not work without the rear subwoofer and speakers. Hope this helps you
