Yes, you can use a normal bond paper. I have tried with a ballpoint pen and did not work for me. I am not sure about the pencil though.

As for the paper, as long as you have the paper anchored in place and not loose you can use your own paper, you just want to make sure the paper is not moving around as you will loose the sync between the digital input and the paper.
