- Answer This produces 4400 BTUs, and can heat an area of up to 400 sq. ft. The glass itself doesn't get hot, but can get warm, and has a safety mechanism which shuts off if it overheats. This insert doesn't have a thermostat, but it does have a blower.

- Answer Hi Fruity, The flames do flicker and have a realistic look, but they don't make any sounds. It can heat up to about 400 sq. feet, and has two switches on the face of the unit that will allow you to control heat and flames separately.

The fireplace insert has an automatic shutoff feature should it exceed that temperature. The temperature is non-adjustable. Thanks!
