Great question, Deano! The short answer is no. Since you already have a home water filtration system, using the internal water filter in this refrigerator is not necessary. But you don't need to worry about taking any extra steps, just simply remove the water filter and do not add a new one. The filter housing will seal automatically to prevent leaks from the water line. ^Jecca
