It has to be smaller than 18 TB. And the bigger the hard drive... the bigger the difference between the size of the drive and useable space. This drive has 16.3 TB of usable space.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. As someone said this drive is 18,000 GB. The drive is displayed as TB, not TiB, and computers use the latter, wherein a TiB is 1024 GiB, etc. So to get the true storage space, take the TB size and multiply by 1,000,000,000,000 then divide that by 1024 4 times. So 18 x 1,000,000,000,000 / 1024 / 1024 /1024 /1024 = 16.37 TiB, which is what your computer will display.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.16TB
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.that is straight B.S. if it shows you have 18 tbs free you must of bought a 20tb.....
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. It's really 18000 gigabytes. No stories. That's just a lot of space.

Please try again later.Hi Slick, Please know that while dealing with Windows and Mac based systems, you will commonly see both decimal measurements and binary measurements of a drive's capacity. In either case, a drive's capacity is measured by using the total number of bytes available on the drive. As long as the drive displays the correct number of bytes (approximate), you are getting the drive's full capacity. Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Just incase anyone else stumbles across this question from searching in Google. Seagate explain it in the most basic terms possible. https://www.seagate.com/gb/en/support/kb/why-does-my-hard-drive-report-less-capacity-than-indicated-on-the-drives-label-172191en/ Theres nothing wrong with any of the drives from the people who posted in these comments. Windows and Mac report drives differently but the space is the same. Confusing?? I know, but its how it is.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I bought the WD 18Tb to use for mac Time Machine backup, and so far the disk utility formatter indicates a full 18Tb.
