• Yes it can. Vertical or horizontal, it doesn’t matter, but if you do lay it on it’s side you should get some stick on rubber feet/pads to minimize vibration and noise. And never move a drive while it’s in use, you can damage the drive and lose data.

• Yes but not recommended for continuous use lying down as the heat flow is not optimal.
