It will "work" in that it will record the video data stream but errors may cause video dropout. Security system drives have the bit error detector and repair circuits disabled. This assures the recorded video stream is unbroken, video doesn't care if there are bit errors, one or two dropped bits does not effect the replay but if the video stream gets caught up in a bit error detect and repair cycle that could cause a major dropout. I use WD Purple Surveillance Hard Disk Drives or Seagate SkyHawk Surveillance HDD.
