• No. It's powered as long as it's plugged in and computer is running. It will go into a standby type mode if you close laptop or put of in standby.

• From what I’ve seen, it pulls power via USB. So if whatever it’s connected to is not on, then the hard drive isn’t running.

• It got warm while workig doing backups then it was cooler in the morning so I guess it automatically adjusts to workload while staying active
