• Mac and WIndows have different OS codes due to which the hard drive needs to get formatted for the proper use with the corresponding OS. Apart from that, you can use this with both

• Yes you can, but not both windows and Mac at the same time. You have to reformat the WD drive for Mac. So, if you back up or transfer files from a Windows program, you will lose that data because you will need to reformat the WD drive to use it for the Mac files.

• Yes, I have 2 of these for my wife's Mac - one formatted for time machine and the other as a standard USB/FAT drive for copying images/documents/videos to share between Mac and PC
