Make sure you’re using the USB ports on the back of the PS5 console. The PS5 should recognize and format the drive immediately upon startup if you have it connected properly.

When you want to play them again (really only because it's faster to transfer files than it is to redownload it. You'll need to transfer them back to internal storage and apply any new updates. But you can play PS4 games that are saved on it, just not PS5 games. Hope this helps. I bought this hard drive and it works for me. If you want to save PS5 games, add a M.2 SSD Prices have recently dropped on them.
