“Does this update and check for viruses at all times or do I have to run the program to scan and update the software? I have this on my mother's computer and not sure if she has to do anything.”

It checks for updates without asking. It notifies you when there is an update and gives you a choice of when you want to do it.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.when you install it, it asks if you want it to run in the background. If you answer yes, it runs continually and you don't have to do anything more, unless it gives you a warning. If it does, you just follow the simple instructions.

It's basically a set it and forget it product. Don't forget to turn your computer off after you're done using it. No one can get into your computer if it's turned off.
