In response to changing the halogen for a LED. Whirlpool says you can not use a LED bulb where they built for a halogen. I wish I could. That would be a quick easy fix.

Here's quote from their web site...but you'll pay considerably more for it. TWO LED TASK LIGHTS Illuminate your entire cooking surface with the pure white light of two brilliant LEDs. They give you an excellent view all the way to the back corners of the cooktop, with a Night Light setting as a thoughtful plus I am guessing that you could swap out the halogen bulbs for LED's yourself.
