- Answer Hi Vic. The required distance depends on what type of cooking surface is on the range as well as building codes. The link below is from the GE website for appliance clearances and states that if it is installed over an electric, induction or gas range, the distance between the top of the range and the bottom of the microwave/hood should be between 13" - 16". The unit can NOT be installed over any cooking surface with a combined burner output above 60,000 BTUs. Hope this helps. QuestionWhat wattage is the halogen bulb? I haven't bought a unit yet, but the lighting issues concerns me. I prefer halogen because LED can be too bright. The heat caused by halogen is a negative. Still considering a Kitchenaid, but $300 more is a lot!

QuestionCan a 40 watt halogen bulb be used instead of a 25 watt bulb on the bottom of the Whirlpool 1.1 cu under-the-counter microwave (WML55011HW)? I wanted more illumination and found such a bulb which seems to be working well but I do not want to do any harm!

- Answer After installation, we had to have the fuse and the lightbulb replaced. When I installed the new lightbulb. I was disappointed that it wasn't as bright as the first time I turned the light on. Perhaps I had a 40 watt bulb, but they replaced it with a 25 watt bulb. Not sure. Would be interested in knowing this.

QuestionWhy was a halogen light used for the light inside of the microwave Instead of LED? It becomes very hot on top of the microwave that extends past the cabinet. It is exposed to area that is touched when going to overhead cabinet. Hot with just door open

- Answer In response to changing the halogen for a LED. Whirlpool says you can not use a LED bulb where they built for a halogen. I wish I could. That would be a quick easy fix.

QuestionCan this microwave be installed under a cabinet without a wall behind it? The cabinets hang from a soffit between the kitchen and the living room over the range.

- Answer Yes - it can vent horizontally out the back, out the top or recirculate. Suggest you visit whirlpool website for complete spec's, installation manual download and more. Also installation video on youtube.

- Answer Hello, per page 3 of the Installation Instructions. 24" (61 cm) is minimum for 60" (152.4 cm) installation height exact dimensions may vary depending on type of range/cooktop below. QuestionMy cabinets are 12 inches deep, but due to the wall tile the distance from the wall the the cabinet front is 11.5 inches. Can this be installed over the tile, or will I have to remove the tile? Thank you.

QuestionMy WLM55011HW stove top light burned out. I had a heck of a time getting the burnt out one out of the socket. I bought the replacement (G9 base, 25W), and darned if I can't get the new IN! It won't budge. Am I doing something wrong? Is there a trick?
