A: Hello Paperbirch! This unit is manufactured to recirculate into the home but can be adjusted to vent to the outside. Thank you for your inquiry on our Whirlpool appliances.
A: User: Dontbuythis is full of misinformation! The unit can vent into the room (recirculating); the intake is through 2 charcoal/grease filters on the bottom & it vents out on top right behind the door. It can also be setup to vent horizontally through the wall or vertically through the roof. It comes out of the box setup for recirculation. The instructions DO NOT make this clear! If you simply want to vent into the room, don’t touch a thing! Also, dontbuythis keeps insisting the bulb is not replaceable, or that it will be $150 to have a new board put in. This is ridiculous! The halogen bulb is easily replaceable in both the over (one screw) and underneath (4 screws) and they are readily available online and in some stores.
A: I just purchased this Whirlpool microwave as part of an entire kitchen suite. I didn't research the Kitchenaid prior to purchase, but I did just review the specs and don't see any other differences. I am quite pleased with the Whirlpool microwave, probably my favorite of the four appliances. It seems to be very thoughtfully designed. For instance, if I put a mug into warm, and choose the 30 secs and go button on the outside, the mug handle stops in the exact same position as when I put in it. I replaced a range hood withe the microwave, the low profile was just what I needed. I also used Best Buy's installation services, they did a good job of converting the electric wires to an outlet and mounting the microwave. In the three weeks I have had it, I have only used the light, 30 sec and open buttons, all of which are on the outside. More detailed controls are available once the door is open, but I have not needed them so far. I can't see any downside to purchasing the Whirlpool vs the Kitchenaid.
Q: what is the internal height of the unit, ie how tall of a travel cup can you put in it?
A: 7 inches
Q: Where on earth is the start button? There are only 3 choices, +30sec, X, and open.
A: Plus 30 seconds is the start button. Plus 30 seconds starts the mucrowave. If you have entered a duration or time to cook, it does not add the 30 seconds. If you have not entered a time to cook.. it starts and cooks for 30 seconds.
A: Hello Eyeguy! No, this does not need to be vented to the outside. This model comes recirculated into the home. Thank you for your inquiry on our Whirlpool appliances.
Q: The operational instructions speak of a START button. Where is it?
A: The triangle on the outside on top with the 30 next to it. I wondered about this too. My teenager showed me how to use it!
A: I just measured the inside height of 7 inches.

So far it’s been great. Easy to install with basic instructions and template for mounting and locating holes for power. Long door takes a bit to get used to but other than that it’s great

Oven was delivered without defect. It was installed a couple of months after purchase which did not result in any complications from our agreed installation from Best buy. The oven is a replacement for our original 1962 era oven and has a lot of features we needed to get used to. The modern bells and whistles are very nice to have and the oven is performing its cooking duties well. Currently we are using the self-clean feature. However we are having problems getting some caramelized deposits off of the glassdoor interior. I called Frigidaire for some help and the support people were courteous. As of yet I do not have the glass door clean, but with their help I hope to soon have that figured out. Best Buy had competitive pricing and their lead salesman was knowledgeable. Prior to finally settling on this model, I bought another model which did not suit us as well, but fortunately the return and credit process was easy via Best Buy. This microwave oven looks great and works great. I wish the numeric keypad was on the outside of the door instead of necessitating opening the door first. It's a little narrow from top to bottom but fits most items well. We bought this unit because it was narrow and allowed us maximum room between our stove top and range hood. The 'end of cooking' chime has a pleasant sound and it's not too quiet and not too loud, but I wish I had an option to make it louder when I know I will be across the house when it goes off. I do like the door "open" button on the unit's front that I can use when both my hands are full and yet I also need to get that door open to put two items in it. When I clean its glass exterior where the touch buttons are, whatever button I hit starts its function. For example if I'm cleaning the exterior where the fan button is, the fan goes off. I wish that didn't happen because as a result I avoid cleaning that area. I would recommend this unit as long as the issues I've mentioned aren't a deal breaker.

I love it that it allows more space above the stove. It's also very nice looking and the smaller size hasn't been a problem. So glad we changed out the old bigger one to this one. I gave it only 4 stars bc the plastic covering the numbers started to wrinkle/come off a few weeks after we started using it. It's not a big deal bc the door covers the number pad so it still looks very nice.
