Jill, The unit does stick out further than my cabinets as well. Initially I thought it looked a bit odd until everything else was in place. Now, all I get are rave reviews of its appearance in my small compact kitchen. Instead of being an eyesore or looking like the odd man out as far as built-ins and countertop pieces go, it distinguishes itself with a sleek profile a beautiful display and soft lighting. The automatic door open feature with one simple touch, is wonderful. You will not regret this purchase, it’s just different than what we are accustomed to.
