Hi Curiosity7, thank you for your inquiry. Since you have the option of the second rinse, it's a matter of preference. Using Rinse 1 With Softener just makes sure water levels are correct for softener distribution. Rinse 2 With Softener does the same thing, but it also engages the second rinse option.
