Hello D808. You will need to run 4 gallons of water through the Water Filter to activate the Filter. If you need further assistance please call Whirlpool at 800-253-1301. We are available Monday & Tuesday 8:00 am - 8:00 pm and Wednesday through Friday 9:00 am - 7:00 pm. They will be better able to assist you.
