• It will work in a 3.0 but it is recommended for 4.0 . The 3.0 gives a slight bottleneck.

• All GPU's are backwards compatible. The difference between 3.0 and 4.0 is an improvement in how fast data is transferred,

• It might but it'll very limited on the performance side of things since it's not at its full potential on 4.0. I had a 3.0 card work on a 4.0 capable platform.
