you can cast my laptop wirelessly without an HDMI cable，the projector has wifi Function.
if you want to fill out the full screen from an 8 feet by 10 feet screen，the distance should be 18ft ，but it is too far that it may show unclear,The recommended projection distance is about 9ft.

I connect to it in Windows by enabling Miracast on the projector then go to display settings/connect to a wireless display in Windows.
I don't know the answer to your zooming question.
